All You Need To Know About Hair Loss Treatments

Hair loss or hair thinning is a common problem for many adults throughout the globe. There are numerous reasons for hair loss, each differing from individual to individual. The more typical reasons may include hereditary causes, but other factors such as poor diet and medical complications may feature. Nowadays, hair loss is not a permanent problem and can be treated effectively with different methods including various hair loss treatments.

One of the most popular and well-known forms of hair loss treatments is a surgical procedure known as a 'follicle follicular transfer'. This surgery involves transplanting growing hairs from various areas on an individual's head to the affected, balding areas. It is an intricate process and requires a great deal of skill and experience to complete adequately.

The follicle follicular transfer is conducted in three phases. The first phase is the extraction phase, the second the healing phase, and the third the implantation phase. If the transfer is successful the hair will take root and grow within 3 to 5 months after the operation. This treatment is recommended for individuals whom have suffered severe hair loss.

While some individuals will be willing to undergo formal medical procedures in an attempt to reduce or reverse hair loss, some would rather use external agents as a remedy. If this is the case, doctors can offer the option of pharmaceutical medications.

Hair loss treatments come in the forms of oils, ointments, creams and tablets. The most popular and reputable oral medication is that of Minoxidil. Minoxidil is an over-the-counter prescription that contains the nitric oxide chemical 'moiety' which assists in not only reducing hair loss, but also helps with hair growth. Unfortunately, Minoxidil has some side-effects which must be considered before use - burning eyes, irritation of the treated area and unwanted hair growth on various other parts of the body other than the head. One must also be aware of possible allergic reactions such as swelling of the mouth and lips or dizziness and increased heart rate.

Another well-known oral medication which may be used is Finasteride. Unlike Minoxidil, Finasteride is exclusively for males and is famous for use in reversing the effects of male pattern baldness. Research has indicated that at least 3 out of every 5 men suffering male pattern baldness experience regrowth when taking this drug. However, Finasteride should not be used for individuals with severe hair loss and is recommended for those with mild to moderate hair thinning.

One of the more organic options when facing hair loss, for males and females, is vitamins. The introduction of certain vitamins and supplements into one's diet has been seen to lead to either halting in or reduction of hair loss. Through regular and long-term intake of vitamin B, B5, B6 and B3 some hair growth may be seen.

In conclusion, while hair loss is a rising problem there are methods to treat the difficulty. Whether one chooses surgical procedures or the more natural introduction of vitamins into a diet, hair loss treatment should work for those who engage in it fully.

Best Ways To Solve Your Hair Loss Dilemma

Hair loss seemed to sneak up on me. I never paid much attention as my hair thinned as I aged until one day a friend started joking about the shiny spot on the crown of my head. When I got home, I pulled out a hand mirror and took a closer look. He was right. My head had a large shining spot with just a little fuzzy hair growing out of it. I asked my wife how long it had been that way and she just grinned. It had been getting thinner for years and I had ignored the hair loss completely.

I had a tough decision to make. Was I going to accept the hair loss as a normal part of getting older or take action to restore my hair? I decided to try hair restoration before doing anything extreme. My first attempt was to buy some Rogaine. I used it for a couple months but did not notice any major difference. I know it works great for some men, since many of my friends swear by it, but for me it was a complete failure.

My second attempt at restoring my hair was to try the natural route. I consulted with a local chiropractor who is a natural medicine expert. He suggested I try an herbal shampoo formula and a dietary supplement he kept in stock. I cannot remember the exact ingredients, but he assured me it was my best chance with a natural medicine approach. I gave this new method a two-month trial, too. I did not see any improvement.

I was time to get serious about my hair loss. What was I going to do? I started researching hair implants, toupees, and other solutions to either replace or hide my hair loss. The surgical methods were too expensive. They had the highest chance of success, but I was unwilling to invest that much money in getting my hair restored. If I was single and trying to meet women, I might have decided differently.

My final answer to my hair loss dilemma came from my wife. She sat down with me and read all the information. We discussed possible solutions for hours. She even convinced me to go visit her cosmetologist. The cosmetologist suggested some other shampoos, cleansers, and ointments. I tried her solution, but it was the same story. My wife was not finished with helping.

A few weeks later I arrived at home to find my wife sitting on the couch with a stack of DVD movies, the remote, and a bottle of wine. She told me to sit down. We spent the evening watching her favorite actors on television. Actors like Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, Patrick Stewart, and Sean Connery filled the screen. She kept telling me how sexy those men were. At 11PM, she pulled a small gift-wrapped box out and had me open it. It contained a set of hair clippers. Fifteen minutes later, my hair loss problem was solved. This solution is not for everyone, but if your wife thinks bald men are incredibly sexy, it might be for you.

Hair Loss Tips You Can't Do Without

If you are suffering from hair loss due to a genetic predisposition to do so, you may think that there are no remedies on the market today in regard to hair loss that can help you. Male pattern baldness is something that millions of men, and women, have to face in their life. Fortunately, there are some remedies that have shown positive results in regard to male pattern baldness and the types of baldness that affect women. In this article, we will show you a couple of these remedies that you can try in order to grow some of the hair back that you have lost.

Genetics is a fickle thing. Sometimes it provides us with advantages over other people. Some people are taller, smarter, or more agile as a result of their genetic predisposition. In the case of baldness, it is definitely a negative that many people would like to remedy as soon as they can. Sometimes hair loss is the result of an accident such as extreme heat or fire that harms the scalp. Other times, it can be the result of medications that you are taking that cause your hair to fall out as a result of having to take this prescription medication. But with male pattern baldness and similar genetic problems that lead to hair loss, it is important to address this as early as possible to make sure that you save as much hair as you can as you get older.

One of the best remedies that you can use is a product called Rogaine. It has been shown to prevent hair loss on the back of your head. It has even been proven to grow hair back that has already fallen out. Minoxidil is the main ingredient within this product which helps the blood flow of the small capillaries in your scalp increase in size and in the amount of blood that flows through them. By using this on a regular basis, especially at the onset of pattern baldness, it is possible to stop the hair loss very quickly, and even grow back the hair that has already fallen out. The problem with this solution is that it is a life long process and you cannot stop taking it at any time. Therefore, if it is important for you to have your hair, and you have the financial ability and tenacity to do so, Rogaine is a great way to prevent baldness on the back of your head.

If you have balding in the front of your head, there are only a few solutions that can help. Many people wear a toupee that covers their balding head. Unfortunately, this is not a solution at all. The best way to address a problem like this is to actually have surgery in which hair follicles and their roots are implanted into the front of your scalp. By doing this hair transplant surgery, the hair that is genetically predisposed to never fall out is moved to the front of your head. And once it grows back, the hair that was missing will now be back and will never fall out again.

Depending upon the type of baldness that you are dealing with, the two solutions that we presented in this article should help you in some way. Hopefully one of these tips will address the problem that you are having, and help you to get the hair back that you have lost in no time at all.

How Serious Is Your Hair Loss

Any person who begins noticing a significant thinning of the hair is naturally concerned as to the seriousness of the condition. On average, a person can loose up to 100 strands of hair from the head. However, this is an average and it can mean that hair loss of over 100 hairs is normal for you.

It may seem arduous, but if you are really concerned, you need to do a hair count. Simply collect the hair from your hairbrush or bath/shower after shampooing and count them. Remember that you will experience almost double the hair loss on days you wash your hair.

If you are experiencing hair thinning, it is more likely that hairs are failing to regrow rather than an increased rate of hair loss. This happens when the hair follicle dies and cannot produce new hair. Of course the older we get the more likely this is to happen.

Hair loss or baldness is often referred to as alopecia. Being diagnosed with alopecia is not way related to the seriousness of the condition but there are different types of alopecia varying in degrees of severity.

Pattern alopecia is hair loss that is associated with male pattern baldness. Here hair loss is localized on the crown of the head and along the forehead. Woman can also suffer from pattern alopecia although this is far more rare.

There are a variety of different treatments for pattern alopecia that can either halt the hairloss or result in regrowth of lost hair. It is important to seek advice from a medical professional before using some hair loss prevention treatments.

If your hair is coming out in clumps leaving areas of the scalp bald, it may point to a more serious hair loss condition. It is essential that this type of hair loss is treated immediately as it is normally caused by a fungus or bacteria. The areas of hair loss can become permanently bald without treatment.

There could be other reasons why you are loosing hair in clumps. Hair loss has been associated with another unsightly and irritating skin condition - dandruff. Dandruff can be treated using shampoos that are widely available in supermarkets but more severe cases may require medicated shampoo.

Severe hair loss could also be attributed to a lack of nutrients in your diet such as iron. If you are unsure whether this could be the cause, ask your doctor to run some blood tests to determine what could be lacking. Alternatively, try a vitamin and mineral supplement that is specifically aimed at improving hair growth.

Another innocuous reason for loosing hair in clumps is referred to as traction alopecia and mainly occurs in woman. This is simply hair that is being pulled out by being tied up too tightly in ponytails. The solution here is simple - let your hair down.

Stress is another major cause of hair loss. Don't worry too much about loosing some hair and get peace of mind from a doctor if you loose too much.

How To Prevent Hair Loss

As you age you are more likely to experience hair loss. Instead of waiting until you actually start losing hair to figure out how to grow it back prevent yourself from losing hair in the first place. By taking measures to prevent hair loss you can rest assured that your hair will remain intact for many years to come. Read through these tips to figure out what to do every day to prevent hair loss.

Grooming your hair is the first thing you are going to want to do every day. Apply the appropriate hair products when you shower or bath. Rinse your hair and massage your scalp to get rid of any dirt or grime. It's important to clean your hair as much as possible to prevent an infection from occurring.

Do not put your hair in danger. Blow-drying your hair for extended periods of time can contribute towards hair loss. Exposing your hair to very hot temperatures can also damage it. When you shower set the water to a warm temperature and avoid overheating your scalp. Too much hair dye can damage your scalp so reduce how often you decide to change the color of your hair. Temporarily coloring your hair is not as beneficial as actually having a natural set of hair.

Stress is probably the biggest thing you have to look out for. Most people that experience hair loss have a lot of stress. Finances, family matters, and work related issues are all the biggest contributors to stress. Stress is entirely mental and can be reduced in a number of ways. Talking things over with your employer or spouse is a good way to reduce stress. Exercising is also known to reduce stress. Believe it or not the food you eat can also help alleviate stress. Stay away from greasy or sugar-rich foods to lower your stress levels. A good way to get your mind off things is to pick up a hobby to help your mind relax from everything your worries. A proper amount of sleep every night can reduce your stress levels.

Fill your body with proper nutrients. Iron, protein, vitamin C, zinc, and omega 3 fatty acids all help your hair grow. Read labels on foods you eat and add these vitamins and minerals into your diet. Find a supplement that can help you add these nutrients to your diet. Proper nourishment is important for both hair growth and other bodily functions.

Hair loss is something difficult to deal with once it occurs. Genetics plays a major factor on whether or not someone loses hair and is unavoidable for some. Do your best to prevent hair loss but keep in mind that it might be inevitable at some point down the line. Every effort you make can change the outcome of the fate of your hair. Take care of your hair and it will look as presentable as possible. Hopefully this article can help prevent you from losing hair and you do not have to deal with hair loss.

Improve Your Hair By Improving Your Life

These days men do not seem to be as concerned about hair loss as in the past. In fact, a totally bald head is often seen as a fashion statement, and many men simplify their hair care routines by simply shaving their scalps. If this seems a bit dramatic to you, though, you probably want to do everything you can to keep and enhance the hair you have. Luckily, all the things you can do to have healthy hair, such as ample rest and exercise and a nutritious diet, also help you have a longer and healthier life. Read on to learn how you can improve your hair by improving your life.

You are what you eat!

This is as true now as it has always been. Start out your hair care regimen by eating a healthful whole foods diet of fresh fruits and veggies, lean protein sources and whole grains. Take a good multi-vitamin every day that contains plenty of B and C vitamins, folic acid and biotin. These are excellent for encouraging the growth of healthy hair, skin and nails.

Drink lots of pure filtered water to stay properly hydrated and to flush toxins from your system. Take advantage of antioxidants, such as green tea to battle free radicals and avoid cancer. After all, there is no surer way to lose your hair than to undergo chemotherapy!

Add healthful oils, such as fish oil, cod liver oil, flaxseed, olive, sunflower and grapeseed oils to your diet. All of these work to give you healthy skin and hair and to keep your arteries clean and your joints working smoothly.

Be sure to practice good stress management techniques.

Get at least a little exercise every day. Meditate, practice yoga or just unwind with a good book and some quiet music. Only a few minutes of stress reduction daily can help you improve your life significantly. The less stress you experience, the less cortisol your system produces, the more likely you will be to avoid heart attack, stroke and stress related hair loss.

Be sure to rejuvenate with ample, high-quality sleep every night. Get six-to-eight hours of sleep every 24 hours. Some people like to get their sleep all at once. Others prefer to split it up with a short siesta during the day and a longer sleep at night. Honor your circadian rhythms by making sleep a priority and establishing your schedule in such a way that you can get the best quality of sleep. Every aspect of your life will benefit from this.

Do not worry about hair loss!

Worrying about hair loss is like quenching your thirst with a glass of sand! The more you do it, the worse it will get. When you worry, your hair falls out. Make the most of the hair you have by keeping it nicely trimmed and clean. Eat well, sleep well and enjoy the truly important aspects of your life. The condition of your hair is a side effect of the condition of your life. If you take good care of yourself and enjoy the best life you can, your hair will look the best it can. More importantly, you will not have the time or the desire to be concerned about your hair.

Losing Hair? Here Are Ways to Get Your Hair Back

Losing your hair can be extremely upsetting. Millions of men and women around the world suffer from hair loss. A large majority of them are looking for a miracle cure. Although no miracle cures are available, there are a couple of treatment options that have proven very effective. If you suffer from hair loss and want to get your hair back, you should find the following information helpful.

Before you can effectively treat your hair loss you must understand what is causing it. Many times hair loss is genetic. Male pattern baldness, as it is commonly called, can be passed down from either your mother's or your father's side of the family. This genetic hair loss frequently results in the standard horseshoe pattern.

Women, too, can suffer from a genetic pattern of baldness. Although women do not typically go completely bald, they often experience varying degrees of hair thinning. While the hair loss may not be as severe as a man's, the affect on a woman's well being is usually much worse.

Another type of hair loss, called telogen effluvium, causes women to lose hair all over their body --- including their eyebrows and pubic area. Telogen eflluvium may be caused by a poor diet, diseases, prescription medications and even stress. While frightening, this disorder will usually reverse itself once the underlying condition is corrected.

Not so with genetic hair loss. Genetic hair loss is usually progressive and, when untreated, will not get better. At the current time there are only two medications are effective in treating genetic hair loss. They are Finasteride and Minoxidil.

Finasteride, which you may recognize by its brand name Propecia, was first developed as a treatment for men with enlarged prostate glands. While being tested they discovered it was helpful in restoring hair growth in men with male pattern baldness. This drug must be prescribed by a physician and comes in a pill form that must be taken once a day. It is very effective in slowing down, and even stopping, genetic hair loss. Some that have used it have even grown back much of their hair.

Here's the bad part. Once you stop taking finasteride your hair loss will resume. It therefore has to be taken for the rest of your life. There are some side effects you should discuss with your doctor before trying finasteride.

Minoxidil, which is most generally known by the retail name Rogaine, is a topical treatment for genetic hair loss. Minoxidil may be used by either men or women and comes in either a liquid or a cream formula. It should be applied directly to the areas of the scalp that have suffered hair loss. Minoxidil will not grow back a full head of hair. Some lucky users, however, have experienced a measure of hair regrowth.

Hair loss is a frustrating problem. While it is bad for men, it is especially bad for women. Hopefully you will find the information in this article helpful if you want to get your hair back.

My Mother's Struggle With Hair Loss

Watching my mother deal with her hair loss was one of the worst experiences of my life – and I didn’t even experience the hair loss for myself. My mother has always been very proud of her hair. It was golden, like sunshine, and everyone always commented on it positively. I supposed it was a big part of her identity. Then sometime during menopause she started losing her hair. It was only in little chunks at first, like normal shedding. Then it was in clumps, left behind on the sofa and clogging up the shower drain. One day my mother brushed her hair and a whole bald spot appeared. She started to cry, and I knew something was wrong.

The doctors couldn’t say what caused it. She wasn’t stressed, so that wasn’t it. It also wasn’t genetic, as far as she knew. Regardless, my mother was a mess over it. Watching her suffer was, as I said before, one of the worst experiences of my life. What does a daughter do as she watches her mother suffer like that? I couldn’t give her the hair she had lost back. Nobody could. All that was left was to find the source of the problem, treat it, and in the meantime, heal.

I suppose it may sound silly to some of you. My mother probably sounds very vain. She is anything but. She is one of the strongest women I know, and she wouldn’t be moved by “just” losing her hair. I think it goes back my deceased father. Apparently, he fell for my mother because of her hair. Long before he knew the other good qualities, of course. He used to always praise it, stroke it, and tell my mother that her hair was the essence of her spirit. After he died, she kept growing it and only trimmed off the split ends. I think losing her hair made her feel like she was losing the “essence” that reminded her of my father.

My role in all of this has been supporting my mother and helping her see other wonderful qualities about herself. We’ve gotten her a short wig in the meantime, for when she goes out, but I know she hates it. It’s not a replacement for her real hair. We’re trying all sorts of treatments to get the hair growing again, but it’s a long struggle. I think my mother is on the verge of giving up. I won’t let her give up. She’s my mother, and I know she would never let me give up, and thus I will never let her give up either! I love her too much to see her stop caring about herself.

I have no idea where the road goes from here. I can only do so much. My mother is between a rock and a hard place. Either she gives up and becomes depressed, or she keeps going on a slim sliver of hope. I’m sure she’ll get her hair back someday.

Natural Remedies For Hair Loss

There are many different types of hair loss affecting both men and women.  Most of us do not want to witness our hair lines receding.  Americans spend millions of dollars every year buying a multitude of products that purport to stop or slow hair loss, most of which do not work or pose significant health risks to us.  People are becoming more health conscience and are in greater numbers turning to healthy life choices for the food that they eat and the products that they use in the hair and on their bodies.

People are also using the same approach to treating hair loss.  Many are choosing to forego the many medications and chemical concoctions that are available off the shelf for hair loss, and are choosing instead to ask themselves the question; are there natural remedies for hair loss?

The answer to that question is yes.  There are many healthy alternatives to the conventional approaches to treating hair loss.  They don’t all work for everybody because all of our bodies are different.  We have different hormone levels from one person to another for example, and my body may not be as efficient as yours at processing this or that vitamin or mineral.  That means that we all of different bodily needs that must be met.  The root cause of your thinning hairline will also be a determining factor in how successful any of these natural remedies work for you.  You may need to try out several before you figure out what works to slow down or stop your hair loss.

In most cases it is best to stop or slow hair loss before it really becomes a problem.  Eating the healthiest food choices is the best way to do that.  Deficiencies in vitamin B, calcium, zinc, and iron have all been shown to contribute to hair loss.  Take into account what medications you are using too.  Birth control pills, for example, are known to deplete vitamin B.

You can also try massaging onion juice or jojoba oil into your hair and scalp.  Onion juice has been shown by a study published in the Journal of Dermatology to start to re-grow hair in two weeks when massaged into the hair for two months, twice daily.  Jojoba oil is believed to stimulate the hair follicles to promote new growth, and moistens the hair you already have making it softer and less likely to snap.  Coconut, kalayla, emu, and almond oils are some great alternatives to jojoba oil.

Reducing your DHT levels will also produce great results many times.  Propecia, the over the count drug for hair loss, is designed to inhibit the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT, which is known to cause male pattern balding.  Unfortunately Propecia is also known for potentially severe side effects such as persistent erectile dysfunction.  We can reduce the levels of DHT by the use of natural means however.  Saw palmetto is the best known natural DHT blocker.  Green tea, stinging nettle, pygeum extract, pumpkin seed oil, and emu oil also work very well.

These are only a few of the natural remedies that you can take for hair loss.  A quick search on the internet will produce hundreds of options more.  Consider your overall health to lower the number of choices to make, and start from there.  It is possible to slow, stop, and sometimes to reverse hair loss when the right combination of natural remedies is used.

Possible Causes Of Hair Loss

Hair loss can be a disease in itself, but it can also be a secondary effect of other illnesses. This is why it is important to see your doctor before attempting any pills, lotions or even natural remedies. If there's a hidden cause for your hair loss, you need to treat it above all. Hair loss will cease once the original cause is removed.

Diabetes, anemia and other nutritional disorders may result in hair follicles becoming weak, thus leading to a loss of hair in much bigger amounts than usual. Topical treatments won't work in such cases as long as the original disease remains untreated or isn't stabilized in a way or another.

Vitamin deficiencies might also cause the hair to look sick and eventually to fall down. For instance, a lack of vitamin C will result in a very dry, brittle hair that splits and looks unhealthy. That's because vitamin C is an antioxidant. Its presence in the body is needed because it helps neutralizing free radicals, the hidden enemies that cause premature aging among other affections.

Vitamin E is also very important for your hair growth. It enhances the blood flow, thus helping feed heir follicles in your scalp and make them produce hairs at an accelerated rate.

It seems vitamin D plays a role in the health of the hair. Scientists assume this because they discovered the hair follicle is rich in vitamin D receptors. Studies are currently ongoing, but results are yet to be published. Anyway, vitamin D is so good for your body that it makes sense to supplement it, even if you aren't sure it will prevent or cure your hair loss.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that may determine permanent hair loss. Being an inflammatory disease, it sometimes destroys the tissues. When scalp is affected, the result will be a loss of hair in patches. These patches are most prone to appear in the temples area. Unfortunately they are permanent, so there isn't much to be done in this case.

Thyroid conditions often result in hair loss. Thyroid is responsible with regulating the metabolism. In case of malfunction, hair follicles might not receive all the nutrients they need for the proper development of hair strands.

Funny enough, there are cases when hair loss is caused by your hair styling. If you often wear a hair style that implies traction, like a pony tail, your hairs will be stressed and weakened and may fall. This is not something to worry much about. Just change your style and your hair will become healthy again.

Sometimes, hair loss can be caused by the medication you use to treat various diseases. For instance, medication used to treat cancer, depression or arthritis may cause a temporary loss of hair.

Hair coloring and bleaching are two other factors that may determine hair loss. If you eliminated all other causes and still your hair is brittle and falls in big amounts, consider switching to a natural coloring solution such as henna.

Simple Ways To Combat Hair Loss

Most people face the issue of thinning hair at some point. However, if that day comes early, it might be necessary to take a closer look at health and wellness in general. Use the following ideas as part of your arsenal to fight losing one more hair from you head.

De-stress. Time to consider an activity to help improve your mental health. Unwind with some yoga or consider bringing meditation into your daily routine. You may also consider arts, such as painting or music to help you unwind. Most cases of hair-loss can be directly attributed to leading a stressful lifestyle.

Fruits and Vegetables. It is imperative that you consume an adequate amount of foods from these groups. If you do not eat enough veggies and fruits your hair will lack luster and strength. This can lead to breakage and thin hair. If eating so many does not work for you, substitute with juices.

Shampoo and conditioner. Keep on your normal routine of washing and treating your hair with conditioners. Do not start using the same treatment on your head that you use on the rest of your body. Shampoos and conditioners are specially formulated for your head and hair.

Vitamins and minerals. Supplements can go for to help ensure that you are getting the nutrients you need for a healthy head and scalp. Look for multivitamins that include antioxidants in the ingredient list. They have added benefit for your hair, and most of the rest of your body.

Avoid the blow dryer. Discontinue blowing your hair dry. This can cause the skin of your scalp to get dry and flaky and is not good at promoting growth.

Hot hair treatments. Try buying a hot oil treatment for your hair. The heat helps open your pores and helps to moisturize your scalp fully. If you cannot buy one, try using ingredients from your kitchen like olive oil, mayonnaise, or coconut oil. Heat them but do not boil or microwave the oils, as that could damage your scalp rather than heal it.

Avoid chemicals. Do not get your hair relaxed, straitened, lightened, or permed. None of these chemical process promote hair growth. Many of them can even lead to hair breakage and loss. Only process healthy air on a healthy scalp.

Massage. Try daily massage on your head. You can use this along with the oils, or by itself. Try massaging your scalp gently for 10-15 minutes a day. It will help to increase blood flow to your hairline, and will also help unblock any pores that may be clogged.

It can be frightening to have hair that is balding or thinning. You do not need to panic. Many of the treatments available do have success, but you need to be vigilant and take the treatments, whether topical or oral, often. Use the tips you learned in this article, along with any other treatment you choose, and you will begin to reverse the effects of hair loss as of today.

Steps You Can Take To Minimize Hair Loss

Everyone will lose some hair as they age. In fact, the average person will lose 50 to 100 hairs every day, even when they are young. However, when those few stray hairs falling out turns into a bald spot or receding hair line, you may be experiencing hair loss.

There are a number of different causes for hair loss. The most common is simply hereditary. This type of hair loss is often erroneously referred to as male pattern baldness but is more properly known as androgenetic alopecia. The name "male pattern baldness" is a bit misleading, because while hair loss does strike a large proportion of men, women can also experience hereditary hair loss.

The next most common cause of hair loss is stress. People who are under a lot of stress, especially over a prolonged period of time, often find themselves experiencing hair loss. Individuals suffering from stress-related hair loss often notice a general thinning, instead of a receding hairline or bald spot.

A third common cause of hair loss is illness. Some conditions can lead to thinning hair either directly, or as a side effect of the medication used to treat it. The most famous is the hair loss associated with chemotherapy, however many other conditions and medications can result in more subtle hair loss or thinning. An improperly functioning thyroid and anemia are two conditions that can result in thinner hair.

Childbirth is another, less widely known, cause of hair loss. After a woman gives birth, her estrogen levels fall very rapidly, resulting in hair loss. Another hormonal-related cause of hair loss is menopause. Again, this is due to falling levels of the hormone estrogen.

So what can you do about hair loss? Once you have identified the cause of your hair loss, you can begin to take steps to either minimize it or sometimes regrow your hair.

For hormone related hair loss such as that experienced after childbirth or at the onset of menopause, often no treatment is needed aside from patience. These types of hair loss will often resolve themselves withing a few weeks to months, and your hair will begin growing back on your own.

For stress or illness-related hair loss, you will need to correct the situation. For stress, this means finding ways to relax and lower your stress levels. Once you have put your mind at ease, your hair will begin growing back on its own. In the case of illness, the resolution is the same. Treat the illness, and the hair loss will stop on its own.

Hereditary hair loss is the most common form of hair loss, and the most tricky to treat. Consulting a dermatologist can help you find the treatment option that is right for you. Some of these treatments include topical treatments such as Minoxidil, and drugs that are taken orally such as Finasteride. Both of these drugs can sometimes halt the loss of hair and even result in new growth.

Hair loss is one of the most common complaints in the modern world, and is nothing to be embarrassed about. Once you have identified the cause of your hair loss, you can start taking steps to treat it, and get your hair back to its former glory.

Stopping Hair Loss For Good

Are you looking for a way to get rid of your hair loss problem? In most cases, you can stop hair loss by getting rid of your bad habits. Go over the following article to learn more about hair loss and how to stop this problem.

Stress is the most common cause of hair loss. If you are always busy, often feel nervous and do not have time to relax, make some changes to your schedule. It is very important to take at least a couple of hours a day to relax and do things you enjoy.

Do you get eight hours of sleep a night? Fatigue is another common cause of hair loss. If you sleep less than eight hours a night, adopt a more regular schedule and try getting more sleep. You should meet with your doctor if you are dealing with insomnia. Try reducing your stress before going to bed by using simple relaxation exercises.

Smoking can cause you to lose your hair. In fact, smoking will cause your body to age quickly and hair loss is only one of the many problems you are likely to encounter. It is best to quit smoking before cigarettes take a greater toll on your health. Do not hesitate to replace your cigarettes with e-cigarettes, nicotine gum or nicotine patches if you have a hard time quitting.

Improving your diet will make a difference. Your body needs plenty of vitamins and nutrients. If your diet is not balanced, you might encounter hair loss and other health issues. You can introduce more vitamins in your diet by eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. Reducing your sugar and fat intake will help you stop your hair loss too.

What kind of products do you use for hair care? It is best not to use styling products since gels or mousses can clog the pores on your scalp. Choose a quality shampoo, conditioner and hair mask. Test different products designed to slow down hair loss until you find products that really work.

Wash and condition your hair once a day. Make sure you rinse your hair thoroughly. Always use lukewarm water and do not wait too long before blow drying your hair. Comb your hair after washing it and avoid adjusting it afterwards. You can reduce hair loss by touching your hair as little as possible.

Improving your circulation will help you get rid of your hair loss problem. You should massage your scalp as vigorously as possible once a day. Use your fingertips to rub your scalp until you experience a tingling sensation. You can rub your scalp with some vinegar or with some anti hair loss cream.

These different methods will help you slow down and stop your hair loss. Make some changes to your habits before you develop other health issues and talk to your doctor if you cannot stop your hair loss. Focus on improving your lifestyle and find a new look instead of letting your hair loss make you feel bad.

The Causes, Prevention and Treatments For Hair Loss

The average adult scalp has been known to house over 100,000 hair follicles in all. On a daily basis, your scalp actually loses about 100 hairs, which can then start to grow back within five or six weeks time. For some people, the hair may not grow back quite as fast or as thick as it used to once the aging process begins to take hold. Knowing what some of the causes of hair loss are and working on ways that you can prevent it may give you a thicker, fuller head of hair.

It goes without saying that one of the main reasons why people will start to notice hair loss is the aging process that takes place within the human body. While it is basically unavoidable, you can work to slow down the aging process by making sure that you have a healthy diet that is filled with all of the good stuff including green leafy vegetables, complex carbohydrates and of course quality fatty acids that can aid in hair growth.

If for some reason you find that you are deficient in certain minerals, you can begin to notice that you are starting to lose hair or you will see that there is a big difference in the life of the hair that you do have. People who are deficient in various minerals such as iodine, zinc and magnesium can start to notice that they are starting to fall victim to hair loss. When your body is starting to lack some minerals, you could run the risk of poor blood circulation. This poor circulation can have a dramatic impact on not only hair growth but can also start to become dangerous for your overall health.

Today, there are certain medications and illnesses that can start to take a toll on your hair health or even the amount of hair that you are able to maintain. Common medications that have been known to list hair loss as a side effect include warfarin, heparin, amphetamines and lithium. Certainly, even if you are finding that hair loss is a side effect that you are dealing with, stopping the medication or completing your course of treatment should leave you to normal hair growth once again.

A lot of people are now finding that smoking and consuming alcohol and drugs can have a direct impact on the way that their hair grows and regrows once it is lost. Generally speaking, people that lead a chemical free lifestyle and do not have the addition of free radicals taking a toll on their hair will often have a better head of hair overall. When you want to work on your hair growth and get your scalp back to its healthy state, you can begin by introducing the right vitamins, minerals and foods into your daily routine.

Of course, there are a lot of natural remedies out there that have been proven to work as a hair loss treatment. In addition to that, you can talk with your physician or salon professional about topical treatments that can be used to help you stimulate your scalp and promote hair growth.

The Day I Lost My Hair

Usually when we talk about hair loss, it’s when the hair was still wanted and the loss was out of our control. But few people realize that some of us want to lose our hair, and that there is even a huge relief that comes with it.

All my childhood I had long hair. My mother would wash and brush it for me regularly, and all of my classmates would comment on it positively. Complete strangers that I never met before would comment on it, usually implying that they were jealous of it. I was at a knowledge bowl tournament once and had a random teacher say that she “coveted” my long, straight hair. The color is a deep, golden brown that shines in sunlight, so when I had a lot of it, I guess other people thought it was really beautiful.

My hair became an intrinsic part of my identity. Jokers would pick up scissors and claim they were going to cut it. Even though I knew they were joking, the thought of someone cutting off my hair sent me into terrible anxiety attacks. What was I without my hair? It was my defining physical feature. I don’t have a striking face, I don’t wear make-up, and when I was a kid I don’t have the curves that I do now as an adult. My hair was the only thing making me stand out in a crowd.

Then I went to college. People there also commented on my hair, which was regularly to my rear. (I would know it was time for a trim when I was starting to sit on my hair.) After a while, I began to think of my hair as a nuisance: combing it after a wash was the worst, it was always tangling, and instead of seeing it as a part of “me” I began to see it as a needless extension. You see, in college I had began to define myself by other things, most of them mental and emotional.

My hair became unnecessary.

I experimented with short wigs to make sure that I liked the feel and look of short hair. The wigs were a hit with everyone I knew. Soon I started to seriously contemplate not only cutting off my locks but giving myself a pixie cut – go big or go home. When I told my mother, she said I could do what I wanted since it was my hair, but she made it clear she was disappointed.

Still, I went to the hairdresser’s.

That day was both nerve wracking and exciting. I figured if I hated it, I could always grow it out again. But when the hairdresser put my hair in a pony tail and got out the scissors, I knew it was really happening.

And I haven’t looked back since.

That was four years ago. In that time I haven’t let my hair grow past my ears without cutting it again. I feel more free than ever before since losing my hair. I no longer have to worry about brushing it, having people grab it, or having it get in the way when I am outside. I hope I never lose all of my hair, but for now, I can’t imagine a life with more.

The Dichotomy Of Hair Loss And Hair Removal

We live in a society with many different types of dichotomies one of which is the way in which we approach the natural appearance of hair on our bodies. While this is especially true for woman, men are fast following in their footsteps when it comes to where and how hair is acceptable on the human body.

On most parts of our bodies we would prefer that our hair disappear entirely and can take extreme and even painful measures to remove hair and even ensure that it does not grow back. Conventional methods of hair removal include shaving, plucking and uncomfortable waxing, more extreme measures involve laser treatment that can result in permanent hair loss.

Don't let anybody tell you that laser hair removal is painless - it is not. It involves numerous treatments where laser beams are directed at specified areas killing the hair follicle resulting in hair loss. This is not however the most extreme hair removal method and I have heard of people actually burning away hair.

However, when it comes to the tops of our heads most people, men and woman alike really prefer to keep as much hair as possible. As we age, it is inevitable that hair thinning and even hair loss will occur at different degrees in different people.

In fact it is amazing that hair growth increases in areas where we would prefer to have no hair while it thins where we want it most as we age. Genetics are mainly held responsible for these changes in our bodies, ie. if your mother or father had significant hair loss or growth as they aged it is more likely that you will suffer the same fate.

In the same ways there are many different ways in which to achieve hair removal, there are a number of treatments available to assist in halting hair loss and even recovering hair that has been lost. These treatments range from over the counter shampoos and medications to extreme hair replacement surgeries.

Even laser treatment is now being used in the prevention of hair loss and new therapies have been developed to actually stimulate hair regrowth. Once again the dichotomy of our society becomes apparent where a treatment can be used to achieve entirely opposite results.

Not all these hair loss preventions or regrowth solutions work. It is important to find out more about every different type of treatment before rushing headlong into one of the more extreme solutions.

Start with the more innocuous treatments like shampoos or dietary supplements. You may find that while these treatments may be totally ineffective on some people they are very successful in treating hair loss conditions in others.

It may be advisable to first consult your GP or physician about the current supplements and other treatments that are available. They will be able to help you find the latest therapies as well as be able to better inform you about what it causing your hair loss and what the next best step would be.

The Psychological Causes Behind Hair Loss

Hair loss or alopecia is a physical disorder which takes form in the, well, loss of one's hair. Although it can occur anywhere on one's body, the hair loss or hair thinning usually refers to the disappearance of hair on one's scalp. Originally this phenomenon was noted in males however, in more recent years alopecia has been seen more frequently in both male and females of various ages.

Before the article continues, the difference between hair thinning and hair loss refers to the severity levels. Hair thinning is a mild to moderate level of loss, and hair loss refers to severe levels of loss or baldness.

One of the most common forms of hair loss is 'male pattern baldness'. This is associated with a hereditary cause of hair loss, hence the term 'pattern'. It refers to a thinning of the hair, usually above the forehead and along the temples, and appears in the late 30s to early 40s. Originally, premature hair loss among men, but research has indicated that the 'hair loss gene' may be passed to females - this may account for the hair loss seen among women. However, a more popular argument - particularly in today's society - is that of a psychological base.

In the early to mid-twentieth century it was unusual to see females with hair thinning or hair loss. This may be due to the traditional gender role which they played within the house and work place. A stereotypical female within that era would be required to maintain a household, raise children and ensure her husband was properly cared for. Although taxing tasks in their own right, this was viewed as less stressful than the professional environment males were facing. However, there are arguments that hair loss was less rife due to the more organic and nutritious diets.

Regardless of dietary theories, the comparison of those individuals with today's hair thinned population is staggering and many believe it is due to the lifestyle changes. The increasingly fast-paced society has become a highly stressful setting in which to live and raise families. As well as the corporate world, family homes and school environments often invoke high levels of anxiety due to dysfunctional interactions one has to face on a daily basis. Often these high levels of stress and anxiety cause detrimental physical side-effects including weight loss, disrupted sleep patterns, headaches, nausea and hair loss.

Often individuals facing these physical symptoms and high levels of anxiety will seek medical help. Physicians have been known to either refer these patients to counselling services or prescribe certain medication in order to reduce or eliminate certain symptoms, sometimes both. In many cases it is seen that the medication does not reduce the experienced effects of stress, but increases them as a side-effect of the tablet.

In conclusion, hair loss can be caused by genetic factors but due to the stressful society we live in it is more likely because of stress. Until we learn to reduce our levels of anxiety, it is unlikely we will be able to handle this symptom without some form of treatment - hopefully without side-effects.

The View From The Top - Hair Loss

There can be no worse feeling for either a man or a woman to see increasing amounts of hair left behind on the comb, or clogging up the shower drain. It is usually a sign that either your hair care products are damaging your hair or that you are under either physical or emotional stress.

However, sometimes hair loss is caused by neither illness nor overuse of hair care products and is just a natural part of the aging process. For many hair loss starts as middle age approaches and will usually stabilize at some point as we grow older.

In many instances the hair loss is simply part and parcel of the hereditary baggage that all of us carry. Chances are that if your parents, or even grandparents suffered from significant hair loss you will as well.

Unfortunately a full head of hair is still seen by many as part and parcel of attractiveness and hair loss can be a devastating blow to ones self confidence.

For many men this problem has a simple solution, simply shave the head bald. In recent years the shaven head has become increasingly mainstream and even those who are not suffering from significant hair loss have chosen to make a shaven head part of their everyday grooming rituals.

For women the problem can be much more serious and can lead to a devastating loss of self esteem. Fortunately there are a variety of very effective hair loss treatments on the market today that can slow, or even stop hair loss.

Reversing the effects of hair loss is slightly more challenging. Although there are some topical treatments which have proven to be beneficial in restoring at least some hair, or thickening the appearance of what hair there is left on the head many opt for surgical outpatient procedures to restore their hair.

These treatments can be both painful and potentially dangerous if not performed by qualified technicians. Those wishing to take advantage of the latest medical procedures to restore the appearance of a full head of hair should take care to select only a clinic that has an impeccable reputation.

For those worried about partial or complete baldness, there are some precautions to take that can at least delay significant hair loss. Some of these are simple common sense. If you value a clean head of hair and want to wash and condition your hair on a daily basis make sure that the shampoo that you are using is gentle on your hair.

For many the first choice for hair shampoos that do as little damage as possible are those which do not contain additives that can strip away the hair's natural coating of oil, causing it t become brittle and break. Some of these chemicals can even damage the roots of hair, which can cause more serious cases of hair loss.

Perhaps one of the easiest ways to preserve a full head of hair is to avoid washing your hair every day. There are many experts who believe that commercials have convinced us that the hair on our scalps requires daily cleaning with harsh shampoos.

This is simply not true. Cutting down on your use of harsh chemical based shampoos is probably one of the best ways to ensure that you enjoy a full and healthy head of hair into your middle age.

Top Hair Loss Myths

Men who are starting to show pattern baldness is a problem that is very common in today's day and age. By the time most men reach the age of 60, the appearance or the lack of appearance of their hair is a reality that most men fear. Similarly, in women, hair loss and pattern baldness effects an increasing portion of women each year as well.  It has been estimated that almost 1 billion dollars per year is spent of ways to fix this baldness problem. The hair loss industry has grown in leaps in bounds which give way to the many myths about hair loss and how to recover from this condition.

Myth #1 - Baldness Occurs from the Genes of the Mother

The first common myth about baldness that is not 100% true is the myth that your baldness is a result of the genes that were passed down from your mother. Although the chromosome (x) that men receive from their mother is in fact the baldness gene, however recent studies have shown that men that experience pattern baldness, in fact have fathers who are bald.  It seems that if your father is bald then you are more likely to become bald yourself later in life.

Myth #2 - All Men Go Bald When The Age

The common myth surrounding baldness in men is that all men will eventually go bald.  The ageing process is a fact of life, but just because you get old doesn't necessarily mean that you will go bald. While it's true that hair loss is common in men over 50, baldness has been noted to be a problem in teens as well. Usually stress is the main factor in causing pre-adult baldness, but in this case genetics can play a factor.  If your young and find yourself going bald be sure to monitor your stress levels because premature balding could be a sign of added stress in your life.

Myth #3 - Wearing Hats Cause Baldness

Wrong. This myth, while popular, has no basis in reality and should be classified in the category of "an old wives tale" than actual science.  Wearing hats of any shape and size will not cause hair loss. While this may be a relief to some people who love sporting baseball caps of their favorite team, the potential if scalp infection is very real if your hats are dirty. Dirt and grime cause the scalp to become infected which can speed up the hair loss process, so be sure to wear clean hats at all times and you will not have a problem.

Myth #4 - Hair Sprays and Gels Cause Hair Loss

While some people have noticed an increase of hair loss when sprays and gels have be overused, the fact is that it's not the spray that's the issue but the way you use it that negatively impacts hair growth.

Hair loss is a fact of life for numerous people, but most of the myths surrounding hair loss are just that. Myths.

Treating Alopecia With Acupuncture

When it comes to hair loss, you may feel that you have tried everything. You may have tried all kinds of lotions, potions, changing your overall hair care routines and practices, implants, wigs, caps, etc. to no avail. There are many alternative treatments for conditions like alopecia. One that is gaining in popularity and has been affective for many people is acupuncture. Learn more about it below.

It has been discovered that there is a gene that is responsible for alopecia. Unfortunately, little more is known than that, so there still isn't a cure for it. More and more people are feeling the affects of this condition and it doesn't matter what sex the sufferer is. The number of products and the amount of money spent each year continues to rise. Sadly, this is wasted on products that mostly do not work, make matters worse, or cause other issues. That's why many people are turning back to ancient Eastern medical practices. One that is common for many of physical treatments is acupuncture, and now this is being used for treating alopecia. Research has found that the cause of alopecia is related to DHT, which is what is causing the shortened lifespan of hair due to shrunken follicles and inhibited hair growth. It is assumed that prostaglandins may be the culprit, but that is just a theory at this point.

As for how acupuncture helps alopecia sufferers, it is quite similar to how it is used for other conditions. Hair loss is linked to vital substances like other parts of the body. Two of these are the health of the internal organs and blood. Unlike some other types of acupuncture, the affects can be more successful when using internal and topical herbal treatments as a part of the acupuncture treatment plan. In this case, most likely specially formulated shampoos and scalp washes. One acupuncture technique widely used to treat this condition is micro-current stimulation near the scalp. The pins placed properly in this area help improve nutrients and blood circulation to the scalp that help with encouraging new hair growth.

These treatments take a little bit of time like most acupuncture treatments. It may take between six and nine months of treatment to start getting positive results, although signs of improvement should start appearing early on in the treatment. That said, the six to nine month expected treatment is generally for those that have just discovered their hair loss. If you have been losing hair for a longer period of time, you should expect treatments to last longer. Your qualified acupuncturist should create a personal plan and treatment for your specific needs instead of one that  is a "one size fits all" treatment. Every alopecia sufferer has different causes and needs, therefore they need a customized treatment plan.

While Eastern medicine usually gets a bad reputation as being unfounded, unsafe, or just ridiculous, do not discount it for treating your hair loss. Many of the naysayers are proponents of western treatments that prove year after year that they are ineffective, but able to sell like there's no tomorrow. If you have exhausted all of these resources, you should try going to a qualified acupuncturist to treat your alopecia.

Trichotillomania And Hair Loss

There are many reasons why someone may be experiencing hair loss. One that is considered uncommon, but can be a main contributor is the condition, trichotillomania. This kind of hair loss is not caused by natural balding, but by a condition that causes one to repeatedly pull their hair out. There are many symptoms and some treatments that you should look into if you have this condition. Keep reading to learn more.

Trichotillomania is an impulsive control disorder where a person repeatedly pulls or twirls their hair until it comes out or breaks off. The cause of this condition is unknown, but it is believed to affect around 4% of the population. Women are generally four times likely to have it than men. Many people with this condition cannot simply stop it. Repeated pulling and twisting can cause hair to become thinner or for it to not grow back, depending on how bad the breakage is.

There are several symptoms to watch out for if you believe you or a loved one has it. Usually symptoms occur before age 17 in sufferers. The hair that is removed may come out across the scalp or in round patches creating an uneven appearance. This doesn't just occur with hair on the head, either. Someone with trichotillomania may also pull hair out of other hairy areas of the body like eyelashes, eyebrows, or even body hair. Children under 17 with this condition usually have hair with an uneven appearance, bare patches of hair loss, exhibit continuous pulling and twitching of the hair. They may also deny pulling their hair, having stubble-like regrowth, exhibit other types of self-harm, or feel pleasure, gratification or relief after they have pulled the hair out. Individuals of any age may suffer from depression, sadness, anxiety, and a poor self-image.

Testing for this condition may involve an examination of your scalp, skin, and scalp. They may perform a biopsy to rule out any other causes for the hair loss like infections.

Treatment is, unfortunately, a cause for disagreement among medical professionals. Some do not agree with using medication for treating trichotillomania, although there are a couple that could reduce some symptoms. Since it is often linked with some type of depression, some believe that using SSRIs may help. It is also believed that habit reversal and behavioral therapy could also be effective.

It is expected that children younger than 6 with this condition may have their condition go away without treatment. For older people with it, it could take up to a year to go away. However, it may never go away for some others. Luckily, there are treatments out there that help better the hair pulling, anxiety, poor self-image, and anxiety.

An obvious complication of trichotillomania is hair loss or baldness. The real issue is if you eat the hair that you pull out, otherwise known as trichophagia. It can cause an intestinal blockage or cause poor nutrition in the body.

As you can see, while not all that commonly mentioned, trichotillomania could be the cause of your hair loss if you exhibit any of the symptoms above. The earlier that it is diagnosed, the earlier you can start treatment and prevent any terrible damage. Don't forget to reduce stress that can lead to this compulsive behavior.

Trying Natural Remedies To Fight Hair Loss

Nothing is more disheartening to find that you are starting to develop thinning hair. For both men and women, dealing with hair loss is something that happens naturally with age. Whenever you start to notice that your hair is getting thinner and thinner, you will want to find a treatment plan that can get your hair back to a thicker and more fuller feel. Take the time to look at all of your options before you try a hair loss remedy to get your hair growing back thicker and fuller. Often times, there will be a number of products out there that claim to give you results, yet they are just a gimmick. Natural remedies for hair loss prevention and treatment are often the best option because they are not loaded with any harmful chemicals. By using natural ingredients on your scalp, you are able to trigger your body's natural hair growing ability.

For some people, getting their hair to stay growing full and thick will be as simple as finding a way to keep the scalp healthy and the hair strong at the roots. Henna is a very common ingredient used by a lot of people who want to keep their hair conditioned and feeling strong and healthy. For years, people have been using the natural herb henna to both fix any damage that may have occurred and then to maintain healthy hair afterward.

Another wonderful natural ingredient to be found in a number of hair treatments today is aloe vera. You will be able to buy a number of products in your local drug store or online that include aloe vera, which is lovely for strengthening the hair follicles and keeping your scalp hydrated. You can even purchase raw aloe vera to mix with ingredients such as coconut milk and wheat germ oil to create your own natural shampoos or scalp treatments.

When it comes to preventing hair loss, herbalists have been using essential oils for quite some time. Simply taking oils such as lavender, bay, rosemary and even ginseng and massaging them into the scalp can actually work to stimulate hair growth. You may even have an aromatherapist in your local area who provides scalp treatments with a mix of all natural essential oils for overall hair and scalp health.

Of course, when you are talking about natural hair loss treatments, you cannot forget that sometimes you can battle this war internally. There are a number of natural supplements that you can take along with a healthy, balanced diet to help you work on hair growth. Vitamin E, collagen and gelatin supplements are all known to be very helpful when you are trying to regrow hair or keep your existing hair thick and strong. Paired with a diet filled with protein and Omega 3 fatty acids, you are sure to see a dramatic change in your overall scalp and hair health.

Types Of Hair Loss And Treatments

Many people, particularly females, treat hair as if it is the most important aspect of their physical appearance. They pay a significant amount of attention to maintaining their hair and they always ensure that it is well cared for and healthy. A lot of people even spend a large quantity of money to ensure that they have the finest hair treatment available. Healthy hair certainly leads to increased self-esteem and self-confidence. Nevertheless, as a result of a variety of factors, many people endure the problem of hair loss.

Usually, every person will lose about 100 hairs strands each day. However, people who suffer from excessive loss of hair that are causing bald spots are probably suffering from excessive loss of hair. Hair loss can be caused by a number of factors that includes medical conditions, and genetics. People who have a family history of hair loss are much more prone to suffering from this condition, which is the genetic component of hair loss. In addition, hormonal imbalances may also result in the temporary loss of hair. There are various medical conditions, such as an infection of the scalp, or problems with the thyroid gland that also have links to losing hair.

There are a number of different conditions that a particular individual may have that will result in hair loss. A condition that has the characteristics of the thinning or loss of hair on the crown of one’s head is called androgenic alopecia. Alopecia areata is a form of hair loss that happens due to an auto immune problem that attacks hair follicles. Traction alopecia occurs when the follicles of the hair are damaged as the result of too much tension on the hair. Traction alopecia typically occurs in individuals that frequently have tight braids.

Hair loss may affect the psychological state of people who experience it. It may decrease a person’s self-esteem. It also has an effect upon the way a female perceives her beauty. A condition that results in hair loss can cause a woman to have feelings that they are less desirable and attractive. Some people have a tough time coping with this and they suffer from stress, denial, and shame. In some instances, a person may develop mood disorders, social phobia, and depression.

Luckily there are treatment options available to people that have problems with hair loss. Many dermatologists will use minoxidi. Minoxidil will stimulate hair growth in many individuals. There are also devices that are laser operated such as brushes and combs that have had some efficacy in the stimulation of hair growth. In addition, finasteride and corticosteroids are also medications that are prescribed for various hair conditions. In addition to medications, there are also some other medical procedures that are used for hair loss including, scalp reduction and hair transplantation.

Your hair should be taken care of properly since it has a very important role in your appearance. If you are suffering from any form of alopecia, it is vital that you first attempt to identify the root cause of your hair loss prior to seeking a specific treatment. In the interest of safety, it is best to seek the advice of a dermatologist regarding the treatment that is appropriate for your specific condition.

What Causes Hair Loss In Women

The symptoms of hair loss are more related to the failure to produce more hair than they are to the loss of the hair we already have.  Hair loss in men and women is normal.  We lose between 50 and 100 hairs every day according to the American Academy of Dermatology.  We can lose as many as 250 hairs on days that we wash our hair.  At that rate hair loss is not noticeable because we have nearly 100,000 individual hairs on our heads on average.

Hair loss in men is a more or less accepted reality of life, though men do spend many thousands of dollars every year attempted to slow or reverse their hair loss.  Everyone is much more sympathetic to the plight of women that are suffering from significant hair loss.  The reality is that although hair loss is often thought of as a man’s disease, women are experience thinning hair nearly as often as do men.

The normal process for hair growth has been compared to that of a garden.  What really matters is what is happening beneath the surface.  If everything is going as it should, then we can expect the product to be produced on the surface… hair growth.  Growth cycles are of upmost importance because when they do not progress as needed, the result is hair loss.   Some leading factors that can contribute to a disruption of the growth cycle are illness, medication, infection, and chemicals.

Women can experience hair loss at any age, but typically first start to notice signs of it around the age of 50 or 60.  In most women their hair loss is limited to a thinning of the hair.  One of the first signs that women will notice that they are experiencing an increased rate of hair loss is that they will notice a larger amount of hairs on their pillows after sleeping.  They will also notice that their brushes are filling up much more quickly.  Thinning is usually limited to the top half of the scalp.

Diagnosis is usually made by the use of blood work.  The doctor will have the blood screened for thyroid gland issues and autoimmune diseases.  Ruling those causes out, doctors will look at genetics because there normally is a history of female family members experiencing thinning hair.  The doctor possibly will magnify the scalp to examine the hair follicles to discover if vary in size.  This will indicate to the doctor that as hair is lost, it is replaced by thinner, more fragile hair.  Hair loss can also result from extreme stress, menopause, physical trauma, and even all the chemicals, irons and brushes that women use in their hair.

There are many causes of hair loss for women.  If you are a woman and suspect that you are losing your hair, you should see your dermatologist as soon as possible.  He will need to determine the cause of your hair loss to be able to decide on a course of treatment and advise you of the effectiveness that the treatment will be expected to have.

Instead, simply wet your hair and stroke your hair products through it gently. Massage your scalp with your fingertips and allow your hair to rinse thoroughly under running water. Use a natural leave-in conditioner to help strengthen your hair and reduce the number of steps necessary to keep it clean. The less you handle your wet hair, the less likely it is to break off.

All of these wreak havoc with your hair and skin and, unfortunately, they are found in almost everything! Read labels carefully and vote with your wallet by purchasing only products that are free of these harsh and dangerous ingredients. Look for products that have short lists of ingredients that you can recognize. If natural products are too expensive for you too purchase, look up do it yourself beauty solutions online to find lots of all natural recipes.

Get a good haircut that suits your hair and that will fall into place on its own. Avoid dramatic or extreme hairstyles that place stress on your hair and scalp. Be careful not to use styling products that dry your hair and make it brittle. The same shopping rules apply to these products as to shampoos and conditioners. Keep it natural for best results.

Be sure to take a good multivitamin that is high in biotin, folic acid, B vitamins and vitamin C. All of these work to strengthen your immune system and help you grow strong, healthy fingernails and hair. Eat a balanced diet that is rich in natural, whole foods. Remember that a diet that is about half veggies, a quarter whole grains and a quarter lean protein sources is a near-perfect diet. Add some healthful oils to keep your hair, skin and nails nourished and your joints moving comfortably.

What You Should Know About Female Hair Loss

For a female, having a full head of hair is a symbol of beauty and virility. It can be styled, colored and brushed until it gleams and is generally a source of great personal pride. However, what do you do when your hair starts to look dull and lifeless, or even worse it starts to come out of your head all together? Read on for a few things that you should know about female hair loss.

On average, a human loses 50 to 100 hairs per day so to see a little in your hairbrush or sitting in the bottom of the shower is not a situation to be alarmed about. New hair will replace that which is lost and is a part of the hair's natural cycle. Excessive hair loss though can be a sign of something more serious occurring within the body.

There are several medical reasons why hair loss may be occurring. After pregnancy is one time when it is quite normal for more than average numbers of hair to come out. If you have had major surgery  or lost a large amount of weight, the body may be feeling stressed and will shed hair as a result. Additionally, certain types of medication will also cause hair loss so if you have experienced any of these situations, do not be overly concerned at this stage.

The most common cause of hair loss is simply genetics. The way your hair will behave is hereditary and can be based on either your mother or your father. However, if both parents have suffered hair loss in the past then your chances are high too. Within females this will show up as a thinning around the hairline and behind the fringe. It could begin as early as your 20's and it could be severe enough that it will spread over the whole scalp. A dermatologist can examine this type of hair loss and will rule out any medical condition through blood work.

Hypothyroidism may be the reason behind your hair loss. Millions of people suffer from this medical condition which occurs when the body is not producing enough of the thyroid hormone. One of the effects of this are that skin, nails and hair can all become quite brittle and break a lot more easily than normal. If you suspect that your thyroid is not doing its job properly, seek the advice of your medical practitioner so that they can prescribe the appropriate medication as needed.

Females are prone to iron deficiency anemia if they suffer from heavy monthly cycles or do not eat enough iron rich food. One of the side effects of iron deficiency includes hair loss. A blood test can measure your iron levels and this can be remedied by way of supplements in the diet.

This is just a small list of things that could be behind your hair loss if you are seeing more than the average number flowing down the drain. Take the time to discuss this situation with your physician to rule out any medical conditions. While hair loss can certainly be a situation that is cause for concern, do not let a temporary loss of follicles overtake your life as it most likely can be remedied over time.

Why Successful Hair Loss Treatment Requires a Trained Specialist

Professionals who specialize in hair loss and hair restoration are known as trichologists. It is not a common practice, so most people are not even aware these professionals exist. There are also general practitioners and other hair care professionals who can try and help you when you suffer with thinning hair or hair loss. This was written to help you determine the type of professional you want to help you with problems related to your hair.

There are over 50 different types of hair loss. Unless someone has very specialized in this field it is not likely they will be able to correctly diagnose the precise cause of hair loss. Trichologists must go to school for four years and their course studies focus strictly on the hair, including the causes and treatment of hair loss. They will not only be able to diagnose your condition, they will be able to help you find treatment options that will really work.

The most important part of treating hair loss is making an accurate diagnosis of the cause. Each type of hair loss needs to be treated differently. That's why seeing a specialist is so critical for success.

Due to their extensive training, trichologists are able to help people with both scalp and hair problems. Normally during your initial consultation they will ask you about your diet and your lifestyle --- both which can affect your hair. After an examination they will determine the best course of treatment.

People that go to cosmetology schools usually have training in hair loss but it is abbreviated. As a result they will not always be able to identify the specific reasons for hair loss. When they do offer advice it is usually somewhat generic. If you want an accurate diagnosis, you really need to see a pro.

General practitioners also receive training in the hair and scalp --- but their training is limited to a few courses, not four years of dedicated study. Since trichologists are not able to prescribe medication, they often have to work directly with a physician. Many doctors will have a difficult time working with a trichologist unless they concur with his or her diagnosis. That is why it is often good to see the physician that your trichologist recommends. Generally they will have experience working together and will trust one another.

Do some research before choosing your trichologist. Since this is not a common practice, check the licensing requirements in your state. Most countries have at least one school for this specialty, but it will be up to you to verify that the professional you choose has had the required training.
